ADIPSA and health

It is our mission at ADIPSA to improve the standard of living in San Agustín's communities and we are very mindful of the need to work to improve health and housing conditions - basic indicators of standard of living.

In the past, we have run projects specifically aimed at improving health and living conditions of the inhabitants of San Agustín's communities.

Our first step as an organisation was to obtain funding from eth NGO, Agua Del Pueblo, to run two water projects. These projects provided the communities with clean drinking water, helping to reduce sicknesses caused by contaminated water and to improve sanitary conditions.

The Canadian Embassy in Guatemala supplied funds to provide homes in San Agustin with stone ovens for cooking and heating.

We also ran a waste management project funded by the UNDP. Organic gardens of edible, medicinal and ornamental plants and shrubs were planted and participants learned about ecological waste disposal and how to produce compost heaps to use as organic fertiliser.
