San Agustín Acasaguastlán

Daily life in San Agustín Acasaguastlán is based around agricultural production. Most farmers are small subsistence producers, whilst many others must seek additional work elsewhere to supplement their income from their plot of land. Isolated from markets, without basic infrastructure or access to credit or education, and faced with the constant fall in the value of commodity production, small farmers can scarcely make meet make enough to cover basic needs.

Added to these harsh circumstances, the climate can at times incredibly destructive. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch destroyed much of the agricultural production in Central America and in the following years, severe droughts caused by the 'El Niño' phenomenon left farmers in ruins throughout the region.

ADIPSA

With the community's very way of life under threat, a group of small producers from San Agustín came together in 1994 to form ADIPSA to improve their lot and to work towards the goal of inclusive sustainable development in the communities.

At ADIPSA, we aim to achieve sustainable development in San Agustin's communities via development projects in the following areas:

Desarrollo Sostenible
